DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES

Some of the many services we provide:

• Management of Ocular Diseases: Including Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration, and Cataracts.

• Digital Retinal Imaging: Used to detect diseases such as Diabetes and Macular Degeneration. This technology is critical to confirming the health of the retina, optic nerve and other retinal structures.

• Optical Coherence Tomography or O.C.T. : A breakthrough technology that lets us see inside the eye at a level that was previously unattainable. The O.C.T. uses a laser to scan the eye and generate 3D images of the retina and optic nerve. It is able to detect tiny changes in individual retinal and nerve fibers within the eye so that we may treat problems before they turn into vision loss and become noticed by patients.

• Visual Field Testing: Measures the quality of your vision (both central and peripheral vision). This testing is able to detect small areas of the vision that may be damaged as a result of disease and which may be able to be treated while in its early state.

  • Glaucoma Testing: Are you like most people and hate the air puff test for Glaucoma? Well we do not use that outdated technology here. We use what is considered the gold standard for measuring eye pressure which gives us the most accurate reading without terrorizing you.

• Dry Eye Treatment: Dry eyes result from the chronic lack of lubrication and moisture on the surface of the eye, which can cause minor irritations, an inability to wear contact lenses and an increased risk of corneal inflammation and eye infections. New treatments are available for this condition.

• Corneal topographical mapping: This scan of the cornea allows for 3D imaging of the cornea to allow us to get the most successful fit for contact lenses of any type.

• L.A.S.I.K. Surgery Co-Management: If you're ready for an alternative to glasses and/or contacts, L.A.S.I.K. may be the right solution for you!

• Eye Emergencies: Eye injuries range from the very minor such as getting soap in your eye, to the catastrophic such as chemical exposures or foreign bodies in the eye, which could result in permanent loss of vision.

  • Myopia (Nearsightedness) Control: Myopia is increasing at an epidemic level pace.  A recent study showed a 60% increase in myopia in the last 25 years.  There are effective means to slow down this rapid progression without requiring surgical intervention.

• Corneal Reshaping Therapy or Orthokeratology (as it is sometimes known): The process of reshaping the eye with specially designed gas permeable contact lenses. The goal of Ortho-K is to flatten the front surface of the eye and thereby correct mild to moderate amounts of nearsightedness and astigmatism.

  • Blue Light Protection: Digital devices such as computers, cell phones, and tablets give off dangerous levels of high energy blue light.  The cumulative effect of this prolonged exposure can cause strain and damage the eyes permanently and can lead to Macular Degeneration later in life.  There are lenses that can block out this damaging portion of the blue spectrum but still allow the safe portion of the blue spectrum to be seen.

• Sports, Specialty, & Safety Eyewear: Fitting sports eyewear can give you the advantage you're seeking for just about any sport (baseball, basketball, hockey, etc.) or recreational activity (target shooting, fishing, etc.). It can also provide the safety and eye protection you need for home and work as well.

COMPREHENSIVE EYE EXAMS

Our thorough exams will be performed with high accuracy utilizing cutting edge digital technology to accommodate all your eyesight needs. We utilize computer assisted automated refractive systems to assist with obtaining the most accurate prescription possible.  Using digital retinal imaging, corneal topographical mapping, and advanced Glaucoma testing (no air puff!), we’ll inspect for the early signs of eye disease from conditions such as Diabetes and High Blood Pressure. We also will be checking for Cataracts, Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma, and Retinal Problems (such as floaters).

While many common annoying eye conditions, such as dry eyes and allergies, aren’t dangerous, we understand that they can interfere drastically with your quality of life. We’ll evaluate your condition and try to alleviate the symptoms as much as possible.

We’ll check your vision to determine if you need glasses or contact lenses, or to confirm that your current prescription hasn’t changed. If you require new eyewear, our optical staff is waiting to help you choose the most suitable pair of designer frames from our quality collection!

Many patients desire sharp vision without glasses or contact lenses. Depending upon your condition, L.A.S.I.K. surgery may be a good option. We’ll meet with you to determine if you are a  candidate for L.A.S.I.K., and we’ll provide full pre-op and post-op management for the procedure. If refractive surgery isn’t for you, corneal reshaping therapy may offer the ideal solution. Call us today to set up your appointment!

Get the results you deserve while looking your best! We carry today's top brands at a price to meet a wide variety of budgets. Our large selection of eyewear will meet all your vision needs and will be durable and made to last. Our wide selection of styles will please all ages.  You can choose from colorful plastics, titanium, stainless steel, rimless, and drill mounted frames. Whether you are looking for something bold or if you are looking for something sophisticated and elegant, you will find it here.

We carry today's top brands like Vogue, Calvin Klein, Ray Ban, Nike, Flexon, Disney, Guess, Champion, Harley Davidson, & Banana Republic, just to mention a few.

We also use the best premium lenses on the market to meet the wide visual needs that our patients demand. Brands such as the Varilux brand of progressive lenses which give the wearer the widest field of view at all distances.  We also carry the best glare resistant lens on the market - the Crizal family of lenses.  These lenses give the best night vision and are combined with a very tough scratch resistant protective layer to provide the durability you need. We also recommend the Transitions photochromic lens that changes its darkness level according to the amount of sunlight present while protecting you from the harmful ultraviolet (UV) light of the sun. It's clear indoors and darkens very quickly once exposed to the sun.

Contact Lenses

Although glasses are becoming more popular as they establish new fashion trends, we know that many patients prefer the natural look of contact lenses. We carry an extensive array of contact lenses (even ones that can change your eye color or darken in the sun!) and Dr. Capellani will work with you to get the most comfortable lenses that give the clearest vision. This includes specialty lenses such as bifocal, gas permeable, hybrid, and lenses to treat the condition of Keratoconus.

He believes in working with the patient to determine the best prescription to balance clear eyesight with visual efficiency to meet the individual needs of each patient. Some of the treatment options include glasses, contact lenses, L.A.S.I.K., or a non-surgical vision correction procedure known as corneal reshaping therapy. It also includes incorporating nutrition to address the long term needs of patients to best preserve their vision.

Dr. Capellani is certified in the diagnosis, treatment and management of ocular disease including Glaucoma and Macular Degeneration. He has a special interest in the care of Diabetes as he has numerous family members with this disease and has seen its devastating effects. COVID 19

At the Franklin Park Eye Center, it is always our top priority to provide everyone the best possible care, as well as to ensure the health and safety of our patients, employees, families, and our community.  We appreciate the trust you have in our practice, and please know that we take the health of your families very seriously.

We have been following the evolution of COVID 19 and have been taking guidance from the C.D.C. and the State of Illinois regarding the best practice and the management of patient care in this rapidly changing situation.  Prior to being seen, patients will have their temperature taken.  If the temperature is 99 or above the patient will be rescheduled.  All patients are required to be wearing protective masks.  Anyone not doing so will be rescheduled. There will be a limited number of chairs in the waiting room.  Exam rooms are thoroughly cleaned after each patient.  When selecting frames, we ask that after you try the frame on that you place it in one of the containers so that they may be sanitized.  Please do not put the frame back up on the board.
